Mr. Shumacher’s practice is concentrated in the areas of estate planning, trust and probate administration, and tax-exempt organizations.
He has drafted hundreds of customized estate plans for high-net-worth individuals and families with a wide range of family and financial considerations, and has helped facilitate multiple large trust and probate administration matters, including highly contested situations representing both fiduciaries and beneficiaries. His practice has a particular emphasis on representing clients heavily involved in philanthropy, as well as working with many leading institutional nonprofits on a wide variety of corporate governance and planned giving matters.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Shumacher worked in the Trusts and Estates Group at Rosenfeld, Meyer & Susman LLP in Beverly Hills. He also previously spent time working at the California Community Foundation, where he gained significant experience in the stewardship of complex philanthropic gifts. As a result, he regularly advises clients on the best use of a variety of charitable gift planning techniques, including donor-advised funds and private foundations.
